As mentioned, the hotel was amazing. We woke up to the sound of a chorus of singing. We thought the local opera house was putting a free Saturday morning concert until we went downstairs for breakfast. This is the most amazingly staffed hotel we have ever been in. Walking into breakfast we heard the chorus again and saw the entire staff of the hotel sitting down practicing a song with the conductor on a keyboard.

The song was incredible and we ate our included breakfast, while listening to the music. Like most back road travel, it is difficult to keep a consistent pace, since you are constantly stopping to ask directions (in Chinese), which in our case, involves asking several people to make sure you understood the directions clearly. We rode through quite a few agricultural communities. Even in these rural areas there still is great deal of traffic. We have noticed an amazing aspect of most Chinese bikes is their handy front basket. Determined to find one for Keith, we kept our eyes out all day. We finally spotted some at a small roadside spread. At first, the man would not sell Keith the basket because he didn’t think it would fit. Keith was too excited to give up the idea, and within a half hour the basket was on the bike. The attaching of the basket was a hot event in town, although it may have been our smelly clothes that drew out 30 or so people. After some haggling, we later found the Five Flea Hotel (we stole that one from Jack). It actually isn’t too bad, but our faucet is pouring into the wastepaper basket at a rate of 3-4 gallons an hour. Somehow, it just disappears behind the toilet; we are just hoping the room doesn’t flood. This morning we were awakened by a chorus of song, but tonight we are falling asleep to the chorus of farts, as our room is located directly across from the public bathroom. The songs started about an hour ago. Good night….
