STRUCTURE OF EDUCATION IN BURMA

Preschool age education begins: age 3

Basic education ends: Grade 10

Progression of school year (Although the academic calendar of schools can vary, students we interviewed shared the following schedule): School year starts in June, 10 day break in September, 10 day break in December, Exams take place in March, summer vacation from April to May

Hours/Days of school week: Students mainly go to school from Monday through Friday (Saturday and Sunday are free). A typical middle school daily schedule would be classes starting at 7:30 am and finishing at noon.

LANGUAGE UNIVERSITY IN MANDALAY

Hours: Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, plus an additional 3 hours of homework each night.

Course of Study: Three years

Cost: approximately $15/year

Academic Calendar: The academic year starts in June and ends with exams in March. April and May are free.
