The goal of our medical program is to compile contact information of local hospitals and clinics in different regions, with the objective of establishing working relationships between willing medical facilities. We hope that once a platform is established both short and long-term, cooperative relationships will begin to develop.
Name: Eye Clinic
Location: Nuangshwe, Burma
Operating Hours: Open 7 days a week from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm
Staff: One doctor and no nurses - doctor was trained in Yangon through a seven year course.
Medications: A course of Amoxycillan (250 mg) costs about US $1. Many drugs are manufactured in India. The clinic has a well-stocked pharmacy.
Number of Patients: The doctor treats about 15 patients daily.
Cost of visit: 1,000 kyat (about US$1)
Most common illnesses: Majority of cases are gastrointestinal, dysentery, diarrhea and influenza. The doctor only sees 1-2 malaria cases a month. Nearly all cases occur in people who have left Nuangshwe and Inle Lake and visited forested areas. No child birthing is done at the clinic; all births take place at the nearby Nuangshwe Hospital.

Operating Hours: Office hours are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, Emergency treatment - 24 hours
Staff: Two doctors on duty and 6 nurses. The female doctor on duty was trained in Mandalay.
Medications: Provided by both government and private sources.
Number of Patients: The hospital sees about 25 patients per day with 4-5 of those being admitted daily with an average stay of 2-4 days. The hospital houses 25 beds.
Cost of visit: Most services are free of charge.
Most common illnesses: Mainly respiratory and gastrointestinal issues. Rare cases of malaria, HIV/AIDS. There is also a child-bearing center at this hospital.
