| Due to the legalities of our presence in the majority of Tibet, we thought it wise to keep a low profile. In doing so, we were unfortunately limited in the questions and surveys we could pursue. Although this allowed us the opportunity to explore a portion of the land and people of Tibet our access to exploring education and medical care was obviously restricted. Near the end of our time in Tibet, closer to the border of Nepal, we visited Gutso Hospital. Gutso Hospital is located in a small village consisting of one street stretching over a distance of about 300 yards (300 meters). The entrance to the hospital is marked by a large gate with a red cross. Upon enering the gates, we were greeted by a young boy and his grandfather who informed us that there were no doctors or nurses presently on duty and in order to receive in depth medical treatment, one must travel to Nylam, approximately 120 kilometers away. Below are some pictures from our visit to Gutso Hospital. |

| Overall, Gusto Hospital was in very poor condition. Most of the buildings were boarded up and only a small area, where we met the boy and his grandfather, was open, yet no medical personnel present. From what we could understand, the hospital had been partially vacated fairly recently, leaving a patient to travel to the next nearest town of Nylam. The travel to Nylam from Gusto, is a relatively long bumpy of road traversing the backbone of the Himalayas. |
